Position:              Intermediate/Senior Embedded Firmware Developer #100254  – 1 Full Time Position
Reports to:         Director Hardware and Embedded Development
Location:             60 Northland Drive, Suite 6&7, Waterloo

Metris (Euronext – MTRS) designs, develops and markets a unique range of 3D hardware and software inspection systems servicing design and manufacturing industries. The company’s reliable and innovative metrology solutions cover the full range of measurement volumes required by automotive and aerospace customers, in both fixed and portable configurations and with optical and touch sensors.  Metris’s Integration Services and Technology (IS&T) Division has its head office in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.  IS&T is a project orientated team responsible for delivering integrated systems primarily serving a top tier Aerospace customer base.
 
Opportunity:

The position is part of a team responsible for the hardware and embedded firmware for our iGPS product.  This component is based on a highly extensible platform with inherent metrology capabilities. This platform is a distributed system built in C++ and C# in a .NET environment.  The primary activity of this opportunity is to develop the specific capability required to fulfill current contractual requirements.  The secondary responsibility will be to work within the hardware team to continue evolving and maturing the underlying product.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Specify, design, implement, and test embedded firmware and device drivers
  • Maintain formal requirements documents and support internal customer report outs
  • Be part of the firmware/software effort to expand formal methodologies and best practices
  • Develop formal acceptance testing procedures
  • Provide written and verbal status reports
  • Job responsibilities will vary depending on project and skill set
 
Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with optical, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with 16/32 bit embedded processor(s) from Analog Devices
  • Experience with Visual DSP++ from Analog devices
  • Strong understanding of computer hardware/software and networking capabilities
  • Excellent analytical ability
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while constructively contributing to the team
  • Demonstrated team and/or project leadership capabilities
  • 5 to 10 years of industrial experience
  • Knowledge of C# and C++
  • Knowledge of Windows OS

Education:

A University degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar program or equivalent experience.
